Educating Students for Success in a changing world

Opening Fall 2024

Serving Grades K-8

Our Mission is to strengthen students academically, socially, and emotionally within a highly engaging and supportive environment.

Our Vision

To set a model for 21st century learning that develops well-rounded students primed to excel in scholarship and leadership.

Education Model

Summerville Academy will implement the CSUSA Education Model, which has proven effective with all student populations across the CSUSA network. It is specifically designed to allow teachers to tailor instruction to individual student needs. The Education Model is an instructional approach developed after extensive study of educational practice and is grounded in over 35 years of Dr. Robert J. Marzano’s research. Its purpose is to ensure effective delivery of a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC) that facilitates each student’s mastery of state-adopted standards. The GVC is comprised of a year-long instructional plan for each grade level and subject area. Its composition is primarily a combination of factors that have strong correlations with academic achievement.

Summerville Academy students will benefit from a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character Education, Attitude is Altitude (AIA), integrated Mobile Classroom, and a dedicated Success Block time. Success Block evokes an “all hands on deck” approach school-wide to ensure each student is provided with the extra time and attention needed to meet academic goals and grow in personal development.

Social-Emotional Learning and Character Education:

SEL and Character Education are core to positively impacting academic achievement as well as a school’s culture. Studies confirm that students engaged in social-emotional learning demonstrated significantly improved social and emotional skills, attitudes, behavior, and academic performance. Working on the social and emotional behaviors of the student is critical to developing young, productive citizens. Character Education provides a focus on developing the whole child. Basic core values of character education include respect and responsibility of self and others, justice, community service, and citizenship. Summerville Academy will reflect a focus on developing the following five SEL competencies, as part of the school’s commitment to a positive school culture and meeting individual student needs:

Mobile Classroom

The Mobile Classroom consists of tools, resources, and technology that will extend the reach of our most impactful teachers and supports adaptability in the event that we need to make instructional adjustments. Developed by CSUSA in the 2019-2020 school year as a result of pandemic-related school closures, the Mobile Classroom facilitates the distribution of technological resources quickly to students and families within the CSUSA network of schools.

The School

Summerville Academy will occupy approximately 45,0005-47,000 sq ft. The layout will include flexible, future-focused community learning spaces, and breakout rooms equipped with retractable walls. This feature will allow teachers to partition learning spaces into individual classrooms for more targeted instruction or open the space up to foster collaboration while instructing larger groups. Furniture that features erasable surfaces, flexible seating, and multifunctional tables/chairs will be available in both classrooms and common areas. Additionally, the facility design will feature the following:

1. Art lab
2. Music lab
3. Science lab
4. Gymnasium
5. Multipurpose outdoor field
6. A large, multipurpose room that will function as a cafeteria and area for assemblies and other school gatherings.
